GEM Shuttles in Detroit
From October 9-14, the robotics firm May Mobility will be using the Polaris® GEM® to shuttle Bedrock workers to and from their offices and parking ramps in downtown Detroit. Shuttling will only take place for three hours each day, and is a May Mobility pilot on the path to a full launch of an autonomous fleet.
The GEM vehicles will be directed by an autonomous driving-software and sensors, but will still have drivers on board in accordance with current laws in case of an emergency.
This pilot test is a landmark for the autonomous transportation industry. There are numerous companies in the 11 trillion dollar transportation industry who are fighting to gain initial market share with autonomous transportation.
